Scaling Up Goal Recognition

چکیده
Plan recognition is the task of determining what a person is doing based on a partial view of their behavior. For example, a plan recognizer might observe a computer user executing a sequence of ls, cd, and compress commands in a Unix shell and infer that the computer user is compressing all large les that she owns. Plan recognition is often studied in domains in which people's behavior is characterized by fewer than 100 plans and goals, such as the tra c [13] and student-scheduling [3] domains. The objective of this thesis to apply goal recognition, a special case of plan recognition, to domains in which there are tens of thousands of possible goals and hundreds of plans per goal. Goal recognition is essential to many applications involving communication between people and machines, including natural language understanding [2], student modeling [3], and user help systems [5]. Recognizing a person's goals allows many useful \interventions." For example, an intelligent agent can o er to complete the task that a person is currently working on. Alternatively, an intelligent agent might o er people advice about how to better achieve their tasks in the future. The key factor in scaling up plan or goal recognition is the size of the plan library, which contains the plans and goals the actor might have. Massive plan libraries arise because the library can be exponential in the number of primitive actions and goal predicates. Just as many sentences can be formed from a few words, many plans can be formed out of a few actions and many goals can be formed out of a few predicates. Large libraries arise in the domains in which we have tested our goal recognizers; namely Unix, Microsoft Windows, and a simulated kitchen domain. We address the following four challenges to scaling up goal recognition [7,8,9,10]:

Impressive progress has been made in global surgery in the past 10 years, and now serious and evidence-based national strategies are being developed for scaling-up surgical services in sub-Saharan Africa. Key to achieving this goal requires developing a realistic country-based estimate of burden of surgical disease, developing an accurate estimate of existing need, deve...

Biometric recognition is an automatic identification method which is based on unique features or characteristics possessed by human beings and Iris recognition has proved itself as one of the most reliable biometric methods available owing to the accuracy provided by its unique epigenetic patterns. The main steps in any iris recognition system are image acquisition, iris segmentation, iris norm...
متن کاملPlan Recognition as Planning
In this work we aim to narrow the gap between plan recognition and planning by exploiting the power and generality of recent planning algorithms for recognizing the set G∗ of goals G that explain a sequence of observations given a domain theory. After providing a crisp definition of this set, we show by means of a suitable problem transformation that a goalG belongs to G∗ if there is an action ...
متن کاملA new 2D block ordering system for wavelet-based multi-resolution up-scaling
A complete and accurate analysis of the complex spatial structure of heterogeneous hydrocarbon reservoirs requires detailed geological models, i.e. fine resolution models. Due to the high computational cost of simulating such models, single resolution up-scaling techniques are commonly used to reduce the volume of the simulated models at the expense of losing the precision. Several multi-scale ...
متن کاملWriting SMART rehabilitation goals and achieving goal attainment scaling: a practical guide.
OBJECTIVE To describe a practical method of setting personalized but specific goals in rehabilitation that also facilitates the use of goal attainment scaling. BACKGROUND Rehabilitation is a complex intervention requiring coordinated actions by a team, a process that depends upon setting interdisciplinary goals that are specific, clear and personal to the patient. Goal setting can take much t...
